Yes: 47.

I just counted them up today. And that’s the number of emails I’ve written and sent for one of my clients.

Of course this is just a tiny sliver of the 347.3 billion emails that are sent each day…

But it’s a big deal for me.

You see… when I look back to the first email I wrote for them…

I don’t think I’m wrong when I say:

It’s an utter cringe-fest!

The subject line: “My 100%-accurate, 40-pound spring detector”.

😖

What was I smoking?

I guess it had “curiosity” going for it. Hmmm.

On to the email body…

You… could… see… I’d… just… fallen… in… love… with: “…”

And didn’t… really know how… to… use… it best.

And the story I was telling?

I sure did try hard.

But:

Trying hard didn’t stop it sucking from here to the moon!

Especially with my poorly executed hand-brake turn toward selling the product.

I’d say it wasn’t slimy-salesy… but not too far off.

Now, I don’t claim perfection in my email writing today — not by a long shot.

But it’s pretty encouraging to see how far I’ve come.

And the advice that “practice makes perfect” does have an element of truth to it.

There’s nothing like seeing your own progress with your own two eyes.

But there’s even more that that “47” represents for me.

You see…

It signifies that I have a client who is ACTUALLY paying me

Dashing to bits one of my copywriter fears: “Who would want to pay me for this?”

And they’re a client who is increasingly valuing the work I do as our relationship grows.

I think that’s an even greater confidence-builder than marveling at my budding email-writing genius. 😜

To get this client in the first place, I had to marshal what meagre confidence I had and just put myself out there a little.

I got things like my profile — on platforms such as LinkedIn — spruced up and “professional” looking.

So when they read my proposals and want to check up on how I could help them — I know I have my house in order.
