Today I worked from my bedroom.
No… not in bed in my jammies.
We have a couple of nice old chairs near our giant bookshelf with a million books on it. It kinda feels like I’m sitting in a library while working.
So settled in there for the day.
Added bonus: it’s on the cool side of the house.
We’re in the height of summer. So it’s been a tad hot lately. And my office heats up in the late afternoon — beyond the capabilities of my 3 fans to cool me down.
Sitting here with my laptop on my lap (fancy that for a LAPtop!)…
I actually feel a little more connected to my writing.
Usually I’m in my office at my standing desk. With 3 screens. And my beloved Keychron K2 keyboard.
But even the crappier laptop keyboard felt nice in this environment.
My point? (Yes, I do occasionally have them!)
Sometimes a change of scenery helps with creativity and productivity.
It did for me today. I was able to get ahead on some email work. And plenty of other bits and pieces.
Might not be earth-shattering news. But working in a different place certainly helps every now and again for me.
Like I said… most of the time I’m in my office. But sometimes will also head further afield.
I might sit in the local library. Or a coffee shop. Even the park.
It’s nice to reconnect a bit with the world around me. Even while I’m tapping away on some emails. And the walk to these places is nice.
So… just an encouragement today:
If you’re feeling a bit stuck with work. Maybe grab a laptop if available… or something analog like pen and paper… and head out.
If it works in your space… you can always try somewhere different but close by.
Like I did with my 8-steps-away room change today. (Yes, I did count 🤓)
Tomorrow: back to my office.
Where I’ll be typing up tomorrow’s email on a topic that I’m sure will come to me in a flash of creativity.
À bientôt!
