All roads lead to…

Another week has just about bitten the dust.

One that’s been full of Thanksgiving goodness… and also Black Friday sales madness.

Thank goodness we’re now in the eye of the storm before Cyber Monday hits.

So while I’m having a quick breather let’s rip into the mailbag for this week…

Today’s question comes from LinkedIn.

Someone who saw that I’m focusing on email asked:

“What are your thoughts on other mediums like social media posts and blogs?”

Firstly… they’re quite right that I’m focusing on email.

But social media still has its place in my world. Blogs… not so much.

My answer below might be a bit “meta” as it talks about the email list you’re reading right now. 🤯

But it can offer you a little behind-the-scenes glimpse. Maybe there’s some ideas to mull over for your freelancing business.

I’m not doing anything particularly revolutionary. Just some basic stuff that suits me.

And it’s all very experimental.

So… this is more or less what I answered:

With LinkedIn…

I’m enjoying meeting people. But now have joined relevant groups and am doing a little commenting.

I also started posting articles a few weeks back. I’m just using one of my daily emails and making it a little more suitable for consumption.

They’re not “proper” articles as such. But are meant to be easy-ish to read. I’m now getting some more people engaging and commenting.

I use Facebook as well. But mainly for group membership. I only post in groups I belong to.

I did have a complete shambles of work and personal stuff going on…

So a month or so ago created a work-focused Facebook profile. And that’s working well for me now.

But email’s where it’s at.

That’s the main focus for my business. And the way I’m building an asset that I own — my list.

In fact a lot of people who have subscribed to my Freelancer Daily Email list have been after we chatted on LinkedIn.

And I’m quite happy about that because I’m not wanting a big list. Quality over quantity for me.

Social media posts and blogs all have their place.

From my point of view, they are to get interest from people who I may be able to help. And give them a path to sign up to my list.

I guess you could say I’m taking an “all roads lead to my email list” approach.

I don’t blog as never could get into it. I guess it’s not for me.

But making some of my emails into articles on LinkedIn is similar — and pretty easy.

But if I did blog I wouldn’t be relying on SEO unless in a very tight niche. Instead I’d be using social media platforms to drive traffic to my blog.

And there’d definitely be an email list signup on the blog page 😀

There’s a fair bit of strategy stuff in there. Maybe some food for thought.

And plenty of that could be unpacked more. (Ask if you’re interested in me doing that. And be sure to tell me precisely what interests you.)

Like I’ve said before…

My business is like a laboratory… with a few experiments bubbling away at any time.

Everything can be changed if needed.

And, like me… you get to wear the lab coat and geeky glasses for your freelancing business.
