Helping freelance copywriters not get their legs wedged on tables

When my oldest daughter was about eight months old she was starting to lift herself up on her hands and trying to crawl.

We were typical proud parents, encouraging her to come to us. But try as she might she didn’t have her legs doing quite the right thing.

So we’d often put her on her back on the mat. Step over to the kitchen to prepare some food (don’t worry, it was in the same open area). And in a minute or two we’d turn back when we heard the poor mite make some unhappy noises.

Although, it was hard not to laugh when we saw her.

She’d already mastered the super-quick roll-over. And then would proceed with her commando crawling. Well… commando half-crawling.

And she’d manage to make it quite some distance. Only problem was, with her legs not quite coming to the party, she would have pushed and pushed herself all the way across our lounge floor…

Backwards!

And where did we find her?

Legs wedged either side of a coffee table leg.

From there there was no escape.

It was a month or so later that she’d get the hang of how her legs should work with her arms. And she’d be commando crawling with the best.

She’d not get suck backwards on table legs. But instead would get stuck head first in corners. Particularly between furniture.

She just couldn’t find reverse on the stick shift.

Some of these things would have been a little easier for her if those darned obstacles weren’t in the way. I mean… who needs couches and coffee tables right?

But reality is… people like to sit and enjoy hot beverages. And you can’t just take away the hard stuff. But you can learn some skills. And gain some strength. So you can navigate around them.

It’s why I turned my business towards helping other freelance copywriters.

NOT because they’re like a bunch of babies! 😁

But to help them better navigate around obstacles.

Some of these are par for the course. Like becoming confident working with clients.

Others we sometimes place onto the lounge floor of our minds. Like worry, analysis paralysis, and imposter syndrome. And we keep jostling around. Only to get wedged on mental coffee table legs.

I’ve seen it before in so many freelance copywriters. I’ve seen it in my own past experiences.

But it doesn’t have to be a rite of passage to have to learn the hard lessons.

Learning from other people’s experience is what I’d say is the best way to help move forward quicker.

It could be the difference between hundreds of hours wasted, lost income, and unnecessary stress… and confidence that we’re using our time effectively, we’re earning, and we’re relaxed. AND enjoying what we do.

It’s why I have this daily email list. To offer some additional help, encouragement, tips etc on this sometimes lonely journey. And I like chatting with people on LinkedIn.

But it’s when I can sit with another freelancer copywriter. And look together at the problems they’re facing in depth. That I start firing on all cylinders.

That’s my way of saying… I love it. And have helped other people get ahead with coaching.

Including helping with things such as getting their first client. Writing effective Upwork proposals. Getting their website and LinkedIn pages set up. And even offering guidance on producing an ebook.

I particularly helping freelance copywriters build confidence so they can move ahead quicker building a business they love.

Let me know if you’d like my help with coaching.

And this week… keep on moving FORWARDS!
