My kids use it a lot. And if I wanted any hope of maintaining some sort of connection with my eldest daughter in London… I’d have to use it too.
So…
Installed the app on my phone — no worries.
Found her account and followed her — good.
Saw some beautiful photos she’d taken, like the Tower Bridge — sweet!
Next morning:

M…
G…
😱
Did I get ANY work done?
Barely…
What with the INCESSANT buzzes, beeps and whatnot emanating from my phone
And it wasn’t just the intrepid daughter. It was all 3.
I want to keep in the family loop of course… but just CAN’T do it while I’m trying to work.
And because I need my phone for work stuff, locking it in a distant cupboard isn’t an option.
I’m aware of my phone’s “do not disturb” feature. In fact I have that turned on a lot — only emergency calls from family can get through.
But:
When I turn do not disturb off, so I can using the phone for work…
A NIGHTMARE ENSUES!!
So, what a relief it was to discover …
There’s also a “focus mode” (might be called something different on your phone).
Well that was a game changer. Going from surefire madness to peace and serenity.
With it I could just single out one app:
“Oi, you… Instaspam! Shut your flippin’ gob!”
And I could still let it out in the evenings — when I remember to turn focus mode off — when I want to catch up on what’s going on.
So:
5 minutes of fiddling with a setting on my phone has now saved me countless minutes (hours?) of being distracted and losing attention during my focused work time.
Of course…
If you don’t need the phone by your side for work… then the leave-it-in-another-room option works just as well. 😁
Either way… distractions are out of the way and time is saved.
Thinking about time saved…
