While slashing and burning my LinkedIn profile… I lopped off plenty of stuff that I expect some people would advise me to keep around.
Gone is my work experience prior to copywriting.
Gone is most of my education section.
Gone is “Creator Mode” — back to a regular LinkedIn profile for me.
But why?
Are you having another “Chris” moment?
(Some worry they’re becoming all too frequent…)
Well, I went ahead and did this because there was what I call a lot of irrelevant “clutter”.
PLUS:
I’d gone and made my profile all rather confusing over the last few months.
It just couldn’t make up it’s mind if it was aimed at helping clients with email marketing.
Or if it was aimed at helping freelancers.
To help us understand the underlying issue… my mate, Chet Jepeety, weaved his story-telling “magic” for us:
Once upon a time in the bustling kingdom of Networkingville, there lived a talented artisan named Chris.
Chris had a LinkedIn profile that boasted his skills in everything from juggling flaming torches to crafting intricate miniature ships inside bottles.
While his diverse talents were impressive, they left potential clients and employers utterly perplexed. They couldn’t figure out if Chris was a master of one craft or a jack-of-all-trades.
As a result, opportunities passed him by, like ships in the night, all because his LinkedIn profile lacked a clear focus, leaving everyone scratching their heads and sailing away in search of specialists with a defined expertise.
Uhh…. there you… go? 🤔
So… in the end I chose: client-facing.
But because it’s still email-related… I added in a nice BIG featured link for my freelancer-focused email list. 😊
So: mission accomplished.
My LinkedIn profile is now all sparkly and fresh ✨
And doing all this reminds me…
A while back I offered a LinkedIn profile revamp service for other freelancers.
It covered: writing a client-focused title, About section, and designing a suitable header graphic — plus some bonus tips on building up your profile.
It was just a way to help them jump one of those freelancer hurdles.
Although it’s not my focus now — as my LinkedIn profile proudly proclaims 😉…
If this $300 offer would help you move ahead quicker and get that “Write LinkedIn profile” item ticked off your todo list…
And you can convince me I’m not insane for opening this back up again…
Book a quick meeting — let’s make it happen for you!
Happy freelancing!
