Friday I was running around like a headless chicken.
A happy one.
(Don’t think TOO hard about my emotional response and that simile… just don’t! 😉)
You see…
I had the opportunity to join a Zoom meetup for a membership I joined a couple of months ago.
It’s focused around using LinkedIn effectively. There were hundreds of people there.
At the end, many of us shared our LinkedIn profiles in the chat.
It was then that the REAL work began.
Clicking, clicking, clicking…
Clackety, clackety, clack, clack…
Getting finger cramps from the number of connection messages I was writing.
It was fun, mind you.
And fortunately my Fridays are usually earmarked for my own business growth… so had enough space in my day.
I connected with 37 people! And began a conversation with each one.
The cool thing is…
We already had something in common. So connecting made sense. And we had something to talk about after we did.
I asked what they liked about the group — an easy conversation-opener.
One answer was a standout… and split my side in multiple places.
So thought you might appreciate this too:
Hi Chris – Thanks for connecting us! Honestly, I like the accountability.
Kind of like working out in a gym where people are nearby so you don’t want to be the only one not doing anything 🙂
Ain’t that the truth? 🤣
And ain’t that my person… fellow Gen X-er.
The giveaway? Yep… the sideways text smiley 😉
It’s true for many people:
Having accountability can be the difference between getting stuff done…
And cleaning your kitchen for the 10th time this week…
Or making Netflix regret they let you have unlimited streaming.
And fortunately the gym ain’t the only place this kind of thing can work.
(*{{Contact.FullName}} breathes a sigh of relief… and shoves their lycra pants back into the drawer*)
..
Connecting with one or two others who are on a similar path…
Or joining in with a more substantial group…
Can be a real accountability help if needed.
But it also helps keep us connected with people out there in the real world… beyond the cave of our home offices. Or wherever you perch to work.
(Speaking to my fellow introverts here. You know who you are.)
I love the opportunity to meet people on LinkedIn.
It’s exciting wondering where those connections might lead.
And there’s plenty of super-interesting people to meet. Like yours truly 😉
So…
Go find some people to do accountability with if you know you need that.
And, if we’re not already…
Cotton candy makes me happy,
P.S. Let me know if LinkedIn has you scratching your head. OK?
