It’s Sunday. A great time to sit back, relax, and answer a question…
Today it’s about a small change… that makes you show up in searches when prospective clients are hunting for help.
The person asked what LinkedIn privacy settings to choose… so you can be found easier.
They also wondered if upgrading to the Premium plan was going to help with this.
So… second thing first:
The advice from LinkedIn experts I follow is: upgrading to Premium is generally not needed for effective LinkedIn networking.
But I guess if you’re doing cold outreach (not what I’d usually recommend)… then the extra “InMails” increase the number of prospects you can message directly.
Premium also helps when you’re out scouring the land for a regular job. But not so important for freelancers.
Instead:
We can do things like jump into LinkedIn groups. Start connecting with “our people”. Showing up. Offering help. Responding to posts that fly past in our feed.
Prospective clients start to notice. They start to see someone who could possibly help them.
In terms of getting maximum exposure…
My approach is: set my profile to “public”.
It means you’ll be indexed by Google. So you can show up in searches.
You can help your LinkedIn profile get into shape by adding keywords that prospects are most likely to type into the search.
Funny story:
Because I’m that vain I just HAD to know what the internet was saying about me! 😆
My LinkedIn profile came back as the first result. Cool!
But the description under the link said:
“Freelance Copywriter, advancing your mission goals/helping you to help others. I can write and format your Devotionals, Fundraisers, Articles, Emails, Blog …”
What the?
No idea where THAT came from. I’ve NEVER used a description like that.
Not even before I was a “Daily Email Writer”.
I think LinkedIn must’ve had a rough night…
And served up some wonky data to the Googlebot when it came a-knocking.
Très bizarre!
So if you’re wanting googlers to find your LinkedIn profile…
Here’s the steps to flick the switch for LinkedIn (in a web browser):
Go to your LinkedIn profile
Choose “Settings and Privacy” from the menu
Then choose “Visibility”
Click “Edit your public profile”
Then under “Edit Visibility”… change “Your profile’s public visibility” to “on”
There’s a whole lot of switches, like for showing thenheadline, summary and more. You can turn those on as well if you like… so people who aren’t logged in to LinkedIn can see more info about you.
Another good thing about setting this up? …
It’s a “set and forget” kind of thing.
Nice! 👍️
I like this kind of do-it-once-and-it’s-all-good kind of approach.
Makes my life as a business owner just that little bit easier.
It’s also what I like about my booking system, SavvyCal. [affiliate link]
I only need to set up each booking link ONCE. And I can have as many as I want for various situations.
Like if payment is required to book a time slot with me. Or if I only want a certain kind of booking for one day of the week.
Plus it automatically sends Zoom links to everyone. No messing around with creating meeting links yourself!
Best of all for my clients… they can choose a time that suits them.
Check here to see if SavvyCal is right for your booking needs.
As always…
Send your freelancing questions my way. I’m happy to help!
Have a fantastic week ahead!
