Opened my laptop this morning to see what’s what in internet-land.
And poked my nose in to check out my latest BerserkerMail email stats.
Only to see a big red “1” glaring back at me in the spam complaints column for yesterday’s email.
Sure I did write the email about unsubscribing.
But I don’t believe there was an invite to slam the spam button on the way out the door!
Of the 550 email broadcasts BerserkerMail tells me I’ve sent, this is the first spam complaint I’ve had. Ever.
But according to the marketing gurus, I’m “spamming” my subscribers by sending too many emails.
So I should have had a pile more of these.
And I should have zero subscribers left. Because I annoyed them all to death with too many emails.
Funny how real life experience doesn’t line up with supposed “industry best practices.” 🤔
Every single person on my email list… who read the writing in the box beside the check mark they ticked before signing up… no matter if it was through my website or signing up for a bundle or partner promotion…
They knew they’d be getting a DAILY email from me.
So, maybe this dear soul who spoiled my spotless record, didn’t read the bold print.
Or maybe they just stumbled out of bed on the first day of 2025… with a thumping headache from partying until dawn… and was a bit grumpy at the world when they checked their email.
Who knows?
But I DO know…
They came onto my list through a bundle. Downloaded the free gift of my paid product. Read no more emails for a few days. Then suddenly decided I was spamming them.
It was bound to happen at some stage, I guess.
Doesn’t sound like we’re a good match anyway. So I’m not losing sleep.
It’s certainly NOT going to hold me back from emailing every day.
If what I’m emailing isn’t what you need, yesterday’s invitation to unsubscribe still stands.
But if you’re sticking around…
One of the most impactful things you can ever do for your email list…
And what I consider the best way to serve your subscribers and customers, and build LASTING relationships through email, is…
EMAIL MORE!
Read that again.
Once more.
Yeah… marketing guru fanboy I ain’t 😂
And of course it matters WHAT you email.
But there’s a reason I email daily…
Showing up daily. Serving by offering value through entertainment. Sharing stories, tips, useful products. It all helps build relationships where your subscribers know you better after every email. Like you more, as they enjoy hearing from you. And trust your expertise more.
Especially when they see you practicing what you preach.
That’s when subscribers become customers. Then superfans.
It’s a delight to serve them.
It’s why I harp on about building relationships with your email subscribers.
Because it’s just so damn important. For your subscribers. And for you.
Key to everything is simply showing up MORE.
As often as you can muster.
Ideally every day.
Because if you show up with something to say every day. You’re showing care for your subscribers. You’re showing leadership. You’re showing you’ve got something to help them move forward. To solve the problems they want to overcome.
And those that really don’t connect with you… they learn that pretty quickly. So unsubscribe. (Usually NOT clicking spam buttons!)
I could go on.
But I think that’s enough for today.
