Yesterday I put in a proposal for a B2B cold email writing gig.
Made it sound good and awesome too: Of course I could meet their needs 110%!!
But the wee, little, incy problem:
I’ve only ever done one B2B email writing job before for a sequence of 5 emails — and they were quite a different color of parrot
I wasn’t worried that I didn’t have the skill to pull it off.
The problem came when they asked: “How much?”
I didn’t have a jolly clue about pricing the darned thing.
So after a bit of hair pulling. And oscillating between $10 and $200 per email… I thought: “I need to get out of my brain…”
So I hopped over to the 11-thousand-member strong AWAI Facebook Group.
(AWAI is where a LOT of copywriters learn the ropes… and many still hang out in their groups).
And I just put it out there…
Uh… so… what do y’all reckon I should be charging for 30 cold emails a day?
Waiting… waiting… waiting… aaand…
First one answer… then another… and another.
Within 1 hour I had a veritable textbook of responses. And some from rather esteemed voices.
Massive “Phew!” … not feeling like I’m flying solo on this anymore. 🛫
And this just made me think:
I’m so thankful for having a network of other freelancers.
I can tap into it for help when I need it. I can also offer help to others where I’ve got a little expertise to spare.
And it’s sooo good having a backstop… especially when I’m stuck in sticky pricing situations like today’s.
I’ve still not settled on a number. But I’m also waiting to hear back from my prospective client after I asked some “clarifying questions”.
After that, I’ll nail it down. But much more confidently than I would have done before.
Networking in groups like this can be a real godsend
But it’s not just the big groups that can offer support. Our one-to-one connections are gold as well.
Networks are great. Use them. Help them out when you can too.
When you do… you’ll help the globe to wobble just a little bit less while it spins.
(P.S. No scientists contact me about that statement!)
