Pure fiction

My oldest daughter, Erin, lost her jaw on the floor!

We were catching up on a video call last night because she’s living in the UK…

We chatted a bit. And then I showed her what I was reading.

Now the reading bit is not particularly shocking…

I kinda have to do it for work and whatnot.

Erin, herself, is a strong reader… always has been…

Lately devouring her way through 1200+ page high fantasy novels. 🐉

Despite her nudges over the years, I think she’d all but given up hope I’d read anything more than “boring” computer books and marketing stuff.

But now her eyes are like dinner plates…

Because I’m holding up: FICTION!

Sherlock Holmes — The Hound of the Baskervilles to be precise, my dear Watson.

This being one of those “wonders will never cease” moments.

The book choice? … wellll… it was on our shelf… and wasn’t looking TOO thick. 😎

Now the language isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. Hey… this was published 120-odd years ago.

But even the first chapter had me NOT wanting to put it down.

What with delicious bits like this…

You interest me very much, Mr Holmes. I had hardly expected so dolichocephalic a skull or such well-marked supra-orbital development. Would you have any objection to my running my finger along your parietal fissure? A cast of your skull, sir, until the original is available, would be an ornament to any anthropological museum. It is not my intention to be fulsome, but I confess that I covet your skull.

Now THIS johnny-come-lately writer — with some handy dandy human anatomy training in a past life — couldn’t help but smile.

“Ahh… this is going to be a good read…”

But why? Why now? And why fiction?

Well…

I had a day off and wanted to relax into something that didn’t demand I gazed a computer screen for hours. 😵

Plus… I did have a small alterior motive.

You see… I’m looking to stretch my weak story skills.

And maybe pick up an idea or two for emails and other things.

So I’m hoping for a two-birds-with-one-stone kind of arrangement.

It’s nice when you can do one thing like relaxing with a book… a get some handy-dandy side effects to boot!

I’m probably telling fiction readers stuff you know ALL about already.

Some of us here are a bit slow on the uptake.

So…

I’m enjoying having some laughs reading an old classic. Picking up some useful freelance business ideas. And… blowing my daughter’s mind. 🤯

Speaking of minds being blown…

I’ve been blown away by another two-or more-for-the-price-of-one-thing…

You see… the easy-to-use system I found for building my website also does a million other marketing things. Like email, product sales, course building, communities, funnels, marketing automation, affiliates… the list just go on.
