Is there method behind the madness of my daily emails?
Sure is.
There’s also a lot that’s just me writing whatever flows from my fingertips onto my Keychron A2 mechanical keyboard.
One part of my method is just writing stuff that’s going on in my world.
Stories about Chris, really.
Today, I’m sharing with you something that’ll take us a little deeper into this.
It’s from an email I sent a couple of days ago to a friend who’s an email copywriter as well.
And this was a very off-the-top-of-the-head email… so you’ll notice it’s a little harder to read. But, you’ll manage 😄
And for context, the person I was writing to had almost forgotten to write their weekly email. So it was a little later than usual. (Oops! But… life happens!)
There’s a couple of ideas in here, especially if you’re thinking about building your own list. Or maybe writing emails for clients.
Or even just as a reminder to keep any content non-boring!
Here’s what I wrote about using personal stories in email:
Having personal stories does help with relationship-building. But I know I’d find that more challenging with only a weekly email (no, not twisting your arm to do daily email!).
But depending on the way you’re wanting to portray yourself… you could include some casual “life stuff”.
Like: “OOPS! I was so busy doing X that I almost forgot this weekend’s email. But I knew you’d be just chomping at the bit for it… and didn’t want to let you down. So here’s your weekly dose…”. Or whatever fits your personality.
My point is: that kind of stuff just helps with appearing more human, and sharing your personality… which is the basis of building a strong relationship with your list.
I’ll stop there to save you from the rest of the drawn out stuff I wrote (hey, I was tired… and I tend to get wordier when tired).
Things to highlight:
First: Story is important.
Just sending information is boring. But information wrapped up in entertainment, like stories… can help consumption. Which builds relationships.
And personal stories are still stories. It doesn’t all need to be hollywood-level action!
Second: It’s much easier to build relationships when you’re more regularly in contact.
I guess it’s the long-distance relationship phenomenon — they’re hard to make work. But if you’re in contact frequently. Even every day. Relationships can blossom! 🌸
(Man, I never used to talk about flowers when I was writing. What’s happening to me?!?!)
Third: Sharing the “doh!” moments can make for great stories.
And show your’re human like the rest of us — AI hasn’t taken over the world yet!!
And I’m sure you’ll realise this email wasn’t written by an AI. Not a word.
I mean… there’s far too much rambling over hill and dale to be AI.
But that’s me.
P.S. I’m still promoting this next thing…
Because ever since I got into the freelancing world…
I’ve met person after person who was running around in circles with their freelancing business…
Or got hung up on something like “I MUST get my website finished first” or “I just NEED to do this next course” or “I’m just NOT good enough”.
And I know what it’s like. Because I was on a repeating cycle for so long. Whispering things like these to myself.
That is…
Until the freight-train of business-mentoring wisdom — carrying a healthy dose of reality — hit me square-on.
It took a bit. But now…
I’ve sledgehammered those brick walls… sucker punched the negative voices… and torched the hamster wheel.
So…
If you’re feeling a bit stuck with something (or everything!) in your freelancing business…
You want to avoid wasting any more time…
And you know it’s time to front up and take action…
I have some slots available to help you with things like:
Strategy, mindset, accountability, business skills, finding and working with clients.
We’ll make some action steps for moving you forwards.
And the price is super-low — for now — while this is new.
Doors are open to you if you’ve been on this list for one month or more.
Just reply and tell me what you’re looking for. I’ll let you know the next steps.
