Selling season

We’re racing hell for leather towards the biggest sale time of the year.

It’s still 2 1/2 months away and already I’m having to get my brain geared up for it.

I’m talking about: Black Friday/Cyber Monday (BFCM).

It starts straight after Thanksgiving. For better or worse.

A lot of people certainly give thanks about the awesome deals that they get in the sales.

And oftentimes Black Friday and Cyber Monday just merge into one gigantic sale-blob.

As a consumer you’ve probably been on the receiving end of a tidal wave of marketing messages sliding into your inbox and social media feeds. And coming from just about any company you’ve had even the slightest whiff of contact with.

It’s an attention-scramble 🍬

Everyone’s hoping — desperately it seems — that you’ll click their email links. That you’ll sign up for earlybird access. That you’ll get all excited about the sale — and hopefully their products too.

But there’s no escaping this for me.

You see…

I work with clients on e-mail marketing strategy. So this is one of those “make it count” times.

Soon I’m going to be writing some of these emails. And thinking about how to get peoples’ attention.

But while I was researching for this year, I got to thinking…

This BFCM period offers real opportunities for us as freelancers — no matter what “stripe”.

So not just for people like me who work with ecommerce companies and write emails and work on strategy.

But for a variety of freelancers who have skills to contribute to a business’s marketing program. And enhance the likelihood of people saying “yes” to buying products during this time.

But…

It will require putting your strategist hat on

Maybe it’s a time to offer something new to your clients that they’ve not even thought of before.

For example… if your focus is design then you can make a case for producing compelling Black Friday-focused designs for e-mail. Or dressing up a website. Or specially designed Facebook ads.

If you’ve not got existing clients… there’s an opportunity to approach prospects with a deal. Particularly as they may be looking for assistance to make the most of this time of the year.

Perhaps for your own business you could run a special deal for Black Friday/Cyber Monday. For example, if you’re producing 10 blog posts for a fixed price you could throw in 2 extra free as a BFCM deal.

Maybe doing something different for BFCM is something your clients haven’t thought about — and might need some nudging.

And it’s not just a time for ecommerce stores to cash in.

Because…

It’s a season of selling… and everyone’s invited!

Even if your clients are in a professional services space. Or sell motorbikes to the local market.

You can still ride the Black Friday/Cyber Monday wave.

Some extra emails, advertising and a good deal can make for some great wins.

But now’s the time to start taking action on this.
