After two hours of thinking I was pushing my freelancing business further forwards…
A giant stop sign plants itself smack bang in my tracks. 🛑
And that’s that.
You see… this morning I was updating my Upwork profile.
And that was all fine.
Then I got it into my head that I should go and finish setting up my Fiverr profile and add a “gig”.
Because I had started doing that last year sometime. And was curious to see if I could land a job or two through that — “just for fun”.
Well…
I read the Fiverr website help stuff. Followed it to the letter. Fought with the character count limitations. Got pricing and all that set up. Even mucked around in Canva to make a semi-cool image for my Fiverr gig (even if I think so).
Only to have an email come in two minutes after my epic gig setup session saying…
“We cannot approve your seller profile”
WTF?
Why not?
Oh… here’s why. They clearly (sarc!) explain the issue:
“We appreciate your interest in becoming a freelancer on Fiverr. To meet the growing demand for high-quality services from trustworthy freelancers, we have carefully considered your profile and service. Unfortunately, we cannot approve your seller profile at this time.”
Perfectly reasonable right?
They’ve “carefully considered” my profile. (Must be pretty awesome to do that so carefully at near light-speed.)
And they’ve explained precisely what the issue is and why they “cannot approve [my] seller profile at this time”.
Hmmm…
Here, folks, is a great example of how NOT to write emails if you want people to have a good user experience.
Because:
I read that email and it basically says to me: “No! And we won’t say why!”
Anyway, my email today has the startings (or continuings) of a rant.
And I’m not really in the mood for a rant right now (I’m more in the mood for my mid-morning coffee).
At least one thing I HAVE learnt today is:
Not to spend a second more thinking about Fiverr!
Because that’s not going to help one iota with billable time for this week.
And, yes, I did scour their site for an inkling of insight — but nothing.
And I’ve sent a support request with a friendly “Why?”
We’ll see what turns up…
Perhaps they’ll let me know why I’m not the right shape for the Fiverr mold.
Maybe I’m not cool enough to join their elite ranks of freelancers?
Maybe my top 1% Canva skills were just too awesome compared to all the other freelancers — and they didn’t want to show them up?
Maybe they don’t like New Zealanders?
Pfft! … Better not be that last one!
