As I write… I’m listening to DISCIPLE by The Warning.
I’m a latecomer to this band… so am busy playing catch-up.
But… “wow!”… loving their music.
I’ll grant that they’re perhaps not everyone’s cup of tea…
But I love their “rock with personality”.
(Not sure that’s an official genre 🤔… but I’ll own it.)
This band’s story has been inspirational.
They’re 3 sisters from Mexico who hit it big on YouTube with their cover of Metallica’s Enter Sandman. Currently sitting at 25 million views.
They released their first albumn, XXI Century Blood, 6 years ago.
The oldest, Dany, is now 23. We’re talking 9 years after the Metallica video went viral.
Do some maths…
That’s “AMAZING!” in my book
As a bass player, I have my eyes on Ale’s fingers as they scream over the fretboard.
Pau (pronounced “pow”) is on the drums… and *POW!* is right!… she’s a legend in the making. (Listen to DISCIPLE to hear what I’m on about.)
Their journey is right there on YouTube. From early covers. To playing live at the MTV VMAs.
What’s been particularly inspiring is their progress over the last 10 years.
I’m encouraged seeing where they’ve come from. Where they’re at now. And anticipating what’s on the horizon.
It reminds me how…
Mastery takes time
And sure… not everyone’s going to be a rock star.
But this applies no matter what you’re developing your skills in.
And incredibly encouraging for me as I look back on a year that felt like I was going nowhere with my business.
Reality of course is that there has been progress… often huge leaps in some areas… although sometimes it takes stepping back a bit to see it.
And…
Even the setbacks are part of it all.
I’m slowly learning how to appreciate the value of losses. Because they all contribute to my journey of mastery.
They help you learn the “what not to do” and “I don’t like that” lessons.
If you’re into rock… and haven’t had the pleasure of listening to The Warning yet…
you’re welcome! 🎸
And if it doesn’t sound like your cup of tea… still give them a try.
Because those driving beats are great for writing emails! (And maybe other writing, where a bit of “oomph!” is needed).
Track 4, ANIMOSITY, is currently helping this email along nicely 🎶
Rock on!
P.S. This is what progress looks like…
From Metallica cover, when two of them weren’t even teenagers:
To playing their own song, EVOLVE, at the MTV VMAs:
