One website calls it a “swarming mass of terror”.
And you thought one rat was bad?
Try 10 of these sewer dwellers.
Squealing, writhing, jerking around every which way…
Because their tails have become so intertwined… they’re unable to pull themselves apart.
*shivers*
These diabolical contortions of nature have earned the name:
“Rat Kings”
I’ll spare you more description.
(And count yourself lucky not to be looking at the photos like I am right now.)
Could this be a step too gross… even for me?
Whether it is or not…
I was struck with how perfectly this abomination parallels freelancers
Or — more specifically — the freelancer who isn’t clear on their goals…
Who has murky next steps…
And all too easily lurches from one shiny thing to the next.
Being pulled in all directions… and barely looking like they fluked it, if they make any “forwards” movement at all. (Whatever direction that is.)
I was sick of being a “rat king” freelancer.
And just wanted to be a… ahhh… single rat business (!?)
(Yeah… gotta work on those metaphors 🤷♂️)
So I had to make a decision.
Yes… that dastardly “D”-word. (Although, maybe not quite as loathsome as “discipline”.)
That decision was simply focusing on one thing: email.
This brought clarity on next steps. And opened up the feeling like I could set some tentative goals to aim for.
My point is:
It’s no fun to be tugged all over the place… while pretty much getting nowhere.
Those poor rats don’t look too happy about it either.
Good thing though… if you’re feeling a bit tangled up…
