You think you know yourself. Then…

I’ve always kinda thought one sleep is as good as the next. Not for me.

Maybe it’s old man-itis that’s showing its colors.

But I’ve noticed today my creative juices aren’t flowing the same after my midday nap.

Compared to after my main night’s sleep when my brain’s buzzing away.

I had the inkling this was the case.

But was brought home today in particular. Trying to write an email. It required more than just muscle memory to get the words out.

Just the research, assimilation of facts, and trying to write some creative stuff…

And particularly because I wanted it to be super-good… well…

It was all a bit crap

Then my brain waved the white flag. “Nope, that’s it for me”.

Funny. Or not… shortly after that I was able to go and work on a client email.

I’d only really planned the CTA and what link to send people to. That gave a bit of definition to what the email was about.

And I could get the info from Wikipedia and other places to fill in some historical interesting bits. Then edit it to be a bit more bubbly and flow nicely.

So the difference is…

The first email was mostly story. And I think that’s where I hit the wall.

Probably need some more training and practice there methinks.

I guess this is a “know thyself” moment.

As freelancers with our business laboratories bubbling away… we’re bound to have moments like these.

And they’re good… I mean… in my case I’ll be doing some tweaking with my calendar and expectations.

Less story/creative stuff after my nap. And more of the “I know the process, I can do it blindfold” stuff for then.

Sometimes we do have to try and wedge things into a time slot. Like working as a freelancer after your day job.

But we can still organise those micro-timeslots to work the best for us.

That’s the beauty of being our own boss. And being able to adjust our processes to suit us. NOT us having to fit the process.

I like that. 😊

That’s it from me. From this record completion-time email. About 20mins. And I’ll give about another 2 mins quick once-over and then off she sails!

Peas be with you
