I’ve been extending my music appreciation horizons lately.
That is… when I’m not up to my eyeballs writing emails. Or other copy bits and pieces for clients.
Today in YouTube land… I watched a video looking at one of the toughest bass lines ever.
I’m a bass player. Not a very good one. But I enjoy it. So thought I’d check it out.
And… W-OW! It did NOT disappoint!
Awesome to listen to. And awesome to appreciate someone who can pull it off.
The song is YYZ by Rush.
I’ve heard of them. But never listened to them before (as far as I know)… even though they’ve been around forever. As in: before I was born they were rocking up a storm!
But seeing maestro, Geddy Lee, on the bass was something else.
Now…
It wasn’t too long ago that I’d see a performance like this… and instantly react like:
“I could never play like that.”
But, it’s funny… since certain things have been happening in my business… I’m less inclined to say things like that.
Now it’s more like:
“That’s awesome! I’d love to play like that.”
Notice the shift? It’s simply:
From pessimism. To optimism.
The thing that’s been helping me with this… believe it or not… is just getting on and doing basic, boring, business things.
Simply learning how to write copy — email in particular. Selling my services. Working with clients. That kind of thing.
It’s through taking action on these things — even if I’m quaking in my boots…
And experiencing the results — even failures — that…
My optimism increases
Because when I look back to my never-in-a-million-years-could-I-write-a-daily-email times… and compare that to where I am now.
Well… it almost inspires me to pick up my bass and give Geddy Lee a run for his money!!
Yeah… dreams are free!
Point is:
Progress is made by placing one foot in front of the other. Despite feeling the fear.
And this coming from someone whose knees knock faster than a certain lion from Oz.
If you’re feeling there’s a roadblock — like fear — in the way of progressing with your freelancing business… I’m happy to help coach you through. Just drop me an email and I’ll send you details.
Now… must get back to Spotify. I’ve got just a teeny bit of listening to catch up on 😁
Peace.
