Consummate pirate, Long John Silver, casts a formidable presence over the pages of Robert Louis Stevenson’s book, Treasure Island.
Not least when he starts knocking off the “loyal hands.”
And young Jim Hawkins is freaking out after spying his dastardly deeds.
I’m about three-quarters of the way through the book now.
And… it’s giving my English skills a run for their money.
Seeing as I don’t know half the words or sayings they’re using.
But it’s a fun read, nonetheless.
And you can see where Hollywood’s pirate stories were stolen inspired from (I’m looking at YOU, Pirates of the Caribbean!)
Despite Long John being a downright bloodthirsty villain…
He had some great lines.
One that particularly struck me was some advice he freely dished out.
Long John’s advice to younger pirates… who were wanting the joy of rum today… and then would hang (by their necks) tomorrow… is simply…
To be patient.
For their “time for riding in carriages will come.”
Wise words… grounded in experience.
How true this is for email list building as well.
Minus the hanging by the neck possibilities.
Ahhh… I AM assuming you’re doing email list building the SAFE way!
Patience is needed because lists don’t explode to 15,000-strong overnight.
You don’t just start emailing one day…and expect to kill it with a $10k month right off the bat.
Email list building is a long game.
With patience and consistency… it can follow a growth pattern.
In due course… the rewards for effort start showing up.
And can provide a very healthy income. With just a little maintenance required.
Skills with list building… such as learning your market… and making good bets on partnerships… take time to cultivate.
Including the skill of writing emails. That captivate and help your subscribers.
Well… me hearties…
