Should a wizard be mocked for doing his work?

Here I am, minding my own business, busily writing an email.

From the other side of the room comes a giggle. Then it’s outright laughter.

I’m like, “Huh?” as I lift my head to see what the fuss is about.

My wife and daughter are sitting on the sofa. Cracking up.

Vicki says, as she wipes the tears, “You sound like a wizard mumbling a spell.”

“And typing like you’re swirling a wand around.”

“Well,” I replied to my wife, “this wizard is magicking up an email.”

“And speaking it alound is the last step to lock in its power!”

Yeah, there’s a reason I usually write my emails alone.

And I was alone at the dining table until these hecklers showed up. 😒

This wizardry at work is the last thing I do when editing my emails.

It’s also a “best practice” for many writers.

I read my writing aloud to check it sounds right. And flows nicely.

It’s what I call “proofspeaking”.

If you want to have a peek at me doing it…

NOT because you want to giggle at my mumbling wizardlike ways (right?)…

Here’s a wee YouTube video from ages ago with me proofspeaking an email as I edit.
