I was glued to my laptop watching a conversation between Laura Belgray and Amy Porterfield.
They’re two people who are crushing it in their businesses.
Mind you, they’ve both been at it for many years.
But, like most of us, they started from zero.
And as much as I love making my own tragic mistakes in business, I usually prefer learn from the experience of others.
Hence why I tuned into this conversation. And they didn’t disappoint.
One nugget that stuck with me was the idea of “building the plane while you’re flying it.”
In other words:
Start your business… and figure it out as you go.
Don’t wait for conditions to be perfect.
Don’t wait for websites… or photo shoots… or finishing 10 courses.
Just get started growing your business from zero…
As messy as it might be. And as unprepared as you feel.
Only by getting moving can we start to see the reward of our efforts.
I tell you what…
I dawdled a LOT while I was getting going. Dragging my feet like a 2-year-old throwing a tantrum!
I waited to start selling because I hadn’t figured out the ‘right product’ to sell to my tiny list.
But, you know… even selling to a small list can pay off.
Amy Porterfield mentioned how she first sold to her list of 70 people…
And made $7k!
Now, I’m not one to share sales figures, but when my list hit 100 I started some tentative selling.
And lo and behold… people bought!
Now selling has become second nature. And I do it in just about every email.
But if you’re feeling a bit nervous about selling in your emails.
My advice is to pick an affiliate product. Ideally something you use personally and can advocate for. And just get started, so you get into the rhythm of being a salesperson.
If there’s little to no sales to start with… hey, it’s practice!
But practice is what makes you better.
So don’t be surprised when your sales start taking off!
