If you’re ever recording a video. Perhaps to upload to YouTube. Or to use in a course you’re developing. Even if you’re on yet another Zoom call…
Getting lighting right is super-important
At least it is, if you want to give your watchers a better experience. And not have you sporting the Darth Sidious look… with your face in constant shadow.
If you’re doing this for something you sell… and the light’s just dull…
It gives the impression of not putting in the effort.
Sure, it may be authentic… but still ain’t too pleasant to look at.
(I…I mean the lighting! … NOT the person in the video 😅)
Now, I’m no Steven Spielberg…
I just follow a couple of simple tips for lighting that I picked up along the way.
Following them helps my face to stay well lit. With lights that didn’t break the bank.
But you can actually do pretty well if you’ve got household lamps. And a bit of duct tape to position them right.
I’ve been there. Even using 500 watt work lamps at one point!
It works. But gets rather hot, rather quick.
So now I just use the cheapie lights. It’s all I need.
Plus, I’m all out of duct tape and halogen bulbs.
Here’s how I make lighting in my videos look better…
