There’s an awesome shortcut in Microsoft Windows if you have Powertoys installed.
(I don’t know if there’s something similar for a Mac… but maybe someone has a good option to share?)
I only discovered this the other day after reinstalling Windows 10. And setting up some of the software I regularly used in the past.
One of these is: Microsoft Powertoys.
I like using it to map my caps lock key to the left control key.
Try that — I reckon you’ll never go back. Plus: your strained left hand will thank you if you’re regularly cutting and pasting, bolding things etc.
The latest shortcut I discovered is:
Windows key + shift + T for “Text Extractor”.
With it you can select a region of the screen. And it will convert any text it finds in there and pop it into your clipboard.
This was brilliant for an email I’m working on.
You see… I had a joke stuck there in an image file. But I wanted to quote it in my email.
Normally I’d have to type this in. But not this time. 🤓
Opened the image in the photo viewer.
Then pressed Windows key + shift + T … selected the image… and the text “magically” turned up in my clipboard.
Ready to paste into my text editor.
Just had to tidy up some line breaks. Otherwise it picked up the words 100%.
Call this laziness if you will. I call it efficiency.
Considering I have another 20+ images I’d like to quote things from for future emails and whatnot…
What a time saver this’ll be!
It’s these “simple” tools that make our lives just a little bit easier
And I tell you what… if there’s a few less words to type… I’m happy with that!
If you want to have the Text Extractor shortcut on hand…
