Just move the bloody couch!

My wife and I have decidedly different approaches to moving furniture around.

We’re both keen to try something new if it’s going to help life work a little easier.

Vicki’s like: “That’s sounds like a great idea, let’s do it!”

She’s an “I’d like this to only take half an hour… and so what if the couch sticks out a bit?”-kind of person.

Me? …

“That sounds like a great idea, let’s bring in an architect, engineer, and designer to make sure everything fits just right”.

I’m a “This will take as long as we need. And we’ll make sure everything fits perfectly, like the jigsaw puzzle that it is.”-kind of person.

Her: “Figure it out if we get stuck”.

Me: “Figure it out so we don’t get stuck”.

Of course, with angelic Chris on the scene…everything is always peaceful and serene. 😇

HA!!

The carnage afterwards is usually:

One grumpy wife. Because this is taking far too long. And is stupidly overcomplicated.

One frustrated husband. Who just wants to make it perfect “for his wife”. But ends up caving. To save the marriage, of course.

We don’t tend to move the furniture around much these days 😆

But if we did…

I think it’d be a different story than a few years back.

The thing is… I’m changing. Mellowing a bit with age. Like a good whiskey.

And being a business owner has forced me to as well.

Because sometimes you can’t plan out every step.

You have to dip your toe in first. And then decide the next move.

Ensuring everything is perfect first… is not the way to keep the bank account in order.

Or to please a spouse… who’d quite like to buy food this week.

As my look-at-it-every-day poster says:

“Take massive imperfect action”

I know it’s sometimes easier said than done.

But it’s the “secret” of every self-made millionaire out there.

Results require action.

Simple. And yet… hard. And hard work.

One thing’s for sure: dithering won’t make things happen quicker.

I’m far from there yet. Some days it’s a fight to keep putting one foot in front of the other. Other days I feel like I’m sliding backwards. But there ARE days when I inch forwards.

I know the direction I’m going. And what it takes to make progress. This helps me nudge forward bit by bit.

Plus, the slips are becoming less confidence-shattering as I go.

Enormous wins are built up from the microscopic ones that come before it

So… take that small, imperfect next step.

And take the win. No matter how small.

See you next time!

P.S. As always… if you want a hand getting some clarity with your freelancing. Or if something’s standing in the way and you just can’t seem to get past. Flick me an email. Let’s discuss if coaching could be a good option for you.
