One of the beautiful things with freelancing is the “free” bit.
Having the freedom to prioritize my days.
Having freedom to do things with the family… and not be chained to a desk.
And days like this…
When I’m just feeling unwell… and need to rest. I’m free to do it and look after myself.
I had a twinge just now of “Chris, you don’t need to write your email today.”
And you know what? That’s right… I don’t have to.
No one’s forcing me to. It’s not going to irredeemably destroy the relationship with you who’s reading it if I skip one day. And there’s no one to fire me if I don’t do it.
Although… the urge to not break my email writing streak is currently beating out the urge to crawl under the covers and die.
Sure… things are different when it’s a client who is not myself…
(Yes, you can be your own client, in case you hadn’t heard 😃)
But not that much different. I mean… If I can’t do something because I’m sick, I say so. We make arrangements. We adjust.
And although I totally prefer sticking to arrangements, and deadlines and whatnot… things happen.
A little communication goes a long away with clients.
Not sure if those are words of wisdom… or some delirium-induced ramblings today.
Whatever it is…
Freelancing is not simply a job you do from home.
I encourage you to make the most of the “free” bit of freelancing. And enjoy the lifestyle it offers.
Catch you next time.
