The world seems to be going gaga over AI.
Even marketing “gurus” are all goo goo eyes.
Just yesterday I read an AI-written email one of them held up as an “awesome” example.
But what utter boring trash.
Just blah blah this…
And trying-to-sound-all-hypey that.
While totally missing the needs of the market it’s supposedly written for.
That said…
AI is handy sometimes.
I’ve used it every now and again for ideas and inspiration for client emails.
And maybe twice I’ve asked ChatGPT about something before writing one of my daily emails.
But…
I will NEVER, EVER send an AI-generated email as-is
For one thing…
It’s dubious whether what’s being generated is something that could be considered plagiarized.
And I definitely don’t want to be stealing someone else’s work.
But probably my main reason is:
AI sucks at being human
Humans like relating to other humans. And AI is just a fancy bit of computer software.
It really doesn’t do a good job of even pretending to be human.
Nor does it act the fool or just do random oddball stuff like some email writers I know like to do 🤪
I know I prefer having a real person email me.
I’m guessing you do too?
And with daily email… relationships are most important.
I feel it’s inauthentic to have a robot writing to my own list. And signing my name.
Another reason I don’t like using AI for writing things…
I find it slows me down while I muck around fixing its mess
It’s easier to just write from scratch for brands I know.
Using AI would make my emailing process so much longer. And for what?
So I’ll keep my AI use to the minimum… when it’s actually helpful.
What do you think… am I just not with the times?
See ya next time!
