February 6th is our wedding anniversary.
And it’s kinda fun that our fellow Kiwis get a day off to celebrate with us. 🥂
You see…
It’s also a public holiday in New Zealand. Celebrating our national holiday, Waitangi Day.
But…
I have to make sure I put it on the calendar now I’m a freelancer. Otherwise it’ll be just another work day.
And I kinda like work.
But I kinda… errr… extra kinda?!… like my marriage more. 😇
So it’s a day off.
27 years ago we were married (!).
My oldest — who’s now 20 — is like: “You guys are SOOO old!”
I took great delight in reminding her:
“You’re now closer to 40 than zero!” 😆
We chose our date because it was the busiest time of the year for weddings.
Every other couple was clamouring for good summertime weekend days for the church booking.
Meanwhile…
We’re like: “Cool. We’ll go for the holiday day during the week then.”.
Didn’t bother us the day. Just that we were doing it.
And we were the 4th generation, on my wife’s side, to get married in the church.
That was pretty special.
A bonus was… my inlaws — who kindly paid for the reception — got a better deal because it was a weekday.
There’s a few funny stories from our day. From stepping on wedding dresses to overeager waiters. But there’s plenty more emails to come for telling those.
Our plan for the day this time around?
Sit in a paddling pool and soak up the summer sun.
(If you read my “chainsaw massacre” email back in October… you’ll know what happened to our big pool 😭. See the archive link below if you want to catch up.)
Have you got days off and special days marked as “no go” zones for your work?
See you again tomorrow!
P.S. No, I didn’t write this on my special anniversary slash public holiday-hybrid day! My best email friend — BerserkerMail — makes it a piece of cake to quickly load and schedule emails in advance. More info about it here via my affiliate link: https://milham.me/berserkermail
