Bad move… and I knew it

Missed my best time for writing my email today. Becuase I left home early for a day out with the family.

But worse:

I had NOT followed my own rule: Picking an idea to write about the day before.

VERY BAD move

A long day out means I’m going to be tired later on. And doubly so… because I won’t be getting my beloved afternoon nap. 😴

So, it’s now after 10:30pm and I’m paying the price.

I successfully sat at my computer, “writing” my email for the last 2.5 hours. And…

Managed to sing my way through the lyrics of two albumns on Spotify. Caught up on some Twitter posts. Started writing… then shelved 2 ideas that just weren’t doing it for me.

That’s the reality when I’m tired.

If I haven’t prepared the day before… my brain hasn’t had its overnight percolation time.

When I’m tired… inspiration often escapes me.

So writing becomes an exercise in pulling teeth.

Not wanting this to be a depressing email for you…

Just an insight into the very ordinary world of a writer who has to admit — from time-to-time — that he’s not superhuman.

It’s certainly a reminder for me just how important it is to stick to my own rules.

And how:

The wink-and-nod promises of the “she’ll be right” route are never fulfilled

Sure…

I did manage whip up a storm of procrastination and distraction.

But that ain’t going to help any emails get written ’round here.

For you:

Might be something in here to reflect on too.

Particularly about being in tune with when you’re most focused.

But also setting up rules for yourself.

So when you follow them… you’ll be working optimally.

And you can get your work done as smoothly as launching yourself down a greased slide.

Tomorrow, I’m following my rules to the letter. I want a smooth ride, for sure.

Which reminds me… to remind you… because I’ve not said it for a while…
