This is one of those “neat trick” things that may in fact be jolly useful…
It’s something I’m thinking of using to make my ebook publishing super-easy when the time comes.
And could be something you find handy too…
Did you know that Google Docs has a very handy menu option (Under File->Download) for saving the document in EPUB format?
EPUB is an open-standards ebook publishing format that’s supported by just about every hardware book reader out there.
This means I can send EPUB files to my Kindle easily using the handy Kindle email address.
And it can be opened in other desktop or mobile readers.
It means you or I can publish an ebook that we can distribute — maybe even sell — very easily.
Of course it’s not the “best” way to make an ebook. But it’s a jolly simple one. And can be more than suitable for many use cases.
Even if you’re not publishing an ebook. You may find it handy to export documents in this format for your own use, perhaps on a Kindle or other device.
I’m starting to do this with notes I’m making from business-related courses. And means I can review them in a friendly-on-the-eyes way. Either on my Kindle or on the Kindle app on my phone. Beats staring at my laptop screen to read them.
So… there’s a couple of cool reasons to use this feature of Google Docs.
Let me know if you think of others.
Catch you next time!
