Not advised for teeth brushing…

Here’s a story a friend of mine gave permission to share. More or less in her own words:

Last night, or more precisely at around 2am this morning, I walked into my bathroom to brush my teeth before falling, already half asleep, into bed.

I ran some water over the brush portion of my battery-operated toothbrush. I then reached for the toothpaste and squeezed a generous amount onto my toothbrush. I inserted the toothbrush into my mouth and pressed the on button.

I instantly realized that something was terribly, terribly wrong.

I turned on the light (yes, I started this in the low light filtering in from my bedroom) and looked at my “toothpaste” only to discover that I had squirted a big glob of baby diaper rash cream that occasionally use on a rash on my leg.

Most diaper rash cream is made largely from Zinc Oxide ointment, the white paste that at one time was primarily applied to people’s noses to prevent sunburn.

Let me tell you that baby butt cream doesn’t taste good, nor does it easily come off a tooth brush.

I grabbed a paper towel and wiped as much of the offending ointment out of the sink where I had spit it. I needed to follow up with dish soap followed by boiling water to clean the sink.

I put a new brush on the toothbrush base. Then I brushed the baby butt cream off my teeth as much as possible.

Followed that with the proverbial “rinse and repeat” for my mouth.

Notes to self:

  1. Turn on the light when brushing one’s teeth

  2. If you have need for any thing that comes in tubes similar in size and shape as toothpaste, do not store in in the same big open-topped jar on your bathroom vanity.

  3. Never attempt to brush your teeth with baby butt cream. It tastes horrible, coats your teeth and tongue, and most importantly, removing said baby butt cream from your mouth effectively might include soap in your mouth followed by boiled water. I don’t recommend either of those last approaches.

🤣

Can’t help it.

Cracks me up every time (sorry!)

For us freelancers… hey, squeezing the wrong tube ain’t going to make for a fun time either.

I think there’s a “look before leaping” nugget in here. Especially when considering taking on something new… perhaps a new project, client etc.

Just taking a little time to look — and calculate the consequences — can help avoid the soap and boiled water treatment to clean things up.

Heck… I’ve made enough rash decisions to know what I’m talking about. And I’m rather sick of the taste of soap 🤮

One example:

I dived into using ClickUp. A fantastic system for projects and teams and whatnot. And used it for a year or more. But was way overkill for my solo operation. And just added to procrastination-related busywork.

I’m now keeping it simple. Even back to simple spreadsheets for some things. And that’s working just fine for me.

Brush with toothpaste,

P.S. Squeezing the right tube for a calendar booking system that I use and love meant the sweet taste of SavvyCal on my brush.
