Marty McFly moments

If the name “Marty McFly” doesn’t ring a bell…

Perhaps DeLorean, Doc Brown, or Flux capacitor will.

Back to the Future is a Robert Zemeckis-directed masterpiece. In my humble opinion.

It’s about Marty accidentally going back in a time travelling car — a DeLorian — and landing in 1955.

Shortly after arriving, his helpful instincts spring into action and he shoves his dad out of the way of an oncoming car.

Unfortunately this prevents his parents from meeting. And now he won’t exist in the future either.

Things are looking like they’ll be forever screwed up until a plan is hatched to get his future (past?!?) parents together.

Near disaster gives way to a welcome “phew!” at the end. And all is well.

All a bit convoluted… but hey… it’s fun!

Marty’s helpful reaction… turns out to be a mistake. But of course it didn’t feel like it at the time.

We all have our Marty McFly moments… where a decision changes what the future could have been.

But we don’t have the luxury of a modified DeLorien to whizz us back into the past and fix up our messes.

Best we can do is make peace with our flaws and goof-ups and those downright egregious disasters.

Because our likelihood of making mistakes today, tomorrow, or in the future is 100%.

It can be helpful to reframe mistakes as learning opportunities. That can certainly take a mental load off.

I mean… that time when I sat in front of a client and rambled on about the 3 options I could provide them.

And showed them my super-awesome pitch powerpoint that I spent 2 hours tweaking to make “perfect”.

But they really couldn’t afford anything much… and said “thanks but no thanks”.

Well… what a mistake… what a “waste” of time…

But what a learning opportunity!

I learned I had some more in-depth questions to ask before meeting with my next prospect.

But imagine if I could go back and change history… and give that presentation so that my prospect would have said “yes”.

Well… I’d be working for less than peanuts. And busting my guts for something I wasn’t particularly excited about anyway.

Instead, I picked up another client shortly afterwards. And it’s a much more suitable arrangement. And something I enjoy getting stuck into.

Those decisions we make now for our business will have ongoing effects down the track.

It’s why… although it isn’t the free or cheapest option… I choose to run my email list using BerserkerMail.

I took a long, hard squint into the future… and figured the time saved by using it would pay off.

And because it’s built and used by marketers who email daily themselves… not by programmers who think they know how marketing works… that made it a solid long-term choice for me.

It’s probably not for everyone. Reason being: they enforce a no-images policy. So if you can’t live without emailing gifs and a million photos… better look elsewhere.

And they don’t just do stuff like this to be contrarian… everything in BerserkerMail comes back to email deliverability.

If you want to check out the details… and take BerserkerMail for a 14-day test-drive… it’s all here via my affiliate link:
