Brrr!

Some places on Earth exist in an almost perpetual winter.⛄

Take Oymyakon in Siberia. With an average temperature of -55°C (-67°F) in winter!

But most places where humans like to live have at least a brief glimpse of a summer warm patch.

Not so much if you were living in Europe in 1816.

Imagine…

You had been going through the usual chilly times of winter. And expecting spring to be just around the corner — so you could get stuck into planting crops to harvest in the summertime.

But, what if…

Spring never came?

Instead of enjoying daffodils it was bitter-cold drudgery as winter wore on… and on… and on. 🥶

Well… it happened.

Known the “Year Without a Summer”… it became a food security disaster of epic proportions.

But where did the sun go?

In April of the previous year — half a world away — Mount Tambora in Indonesia erupted.

Doing so with enough force to drive a massive amount of sulphur particles high into the atmosphere.

The natural wind currents that move from the equator to the Earth’s poles carried them far to the north.

As the particles hung around they blocked and scattered the sun’s rays.

And…

A sinister shadow loomed over the earth.

Plants were starved of the UV light they need for growth.

And the loss of food production led to the greatest amount of violence seen in Europe since the French Revolution.

So it was…

That a volcano erupting thousands of miles away led to a year without summer — and many an empty belly.

Amazing how events far away in time and space can have massive effects close to home.

Like…

Learning to write relevant, clear, and persuasive copy.

This might seem a world away from the service you’re providing as a freelancer.

Especially if you’re NOT hanging out the “copywriter” sign, as such.

But…

Learning this skill can have HUGE positive effects for your business.

You see, we’re not so different to our clients.

We have:

Websites. LinkedIn profiles. Cold email (or any email). Social media. Advertising.

The list can be expansive.

And — like anyone offering a service or product — whenever we want to do good business with other people…

We can benefit from writing words that are clear and customer-focused.

It can be a bonus to write this copy yourself.

ALSO a bonus if you DON’T write it yourself… but you have the training to know good copy when you see it.

Either way… it’s an asset that can pay dividends.

The course I’ve studied — and recommend to other freelancers wanting to learn copywriting skills — is the AWAI Method.

Not the cheapest around, I’ll give you that. But it’s billed as the “Gold Standard in Copywriter Training”. And put together by top players in the marketing world who provide a solid foundation to those keen to learn.
