This turned my freelancing business around

In my world, here’s the thing that really did turn my freelance business around…

Walking.

— Er… come again Chris?

Yep… walking.

Specifically: walking a lot.

You see…

I spent the better part of 18 months doing copywriting training, figuring things out, training some more, getting some clients, avoiding clients, then getting some steady client work…

But with my wonder-hindsight goggles strapped on…

It was all a bit of a shambles

Sure I learned a lot. Sure I made some money from client work. Sure I became an email copywriter.

But one of the things that really was escaping me all the time was… clarity.

Specifically: being clear about why I was doing what I was doing. And how to best do it so I remained sane (or gained sanity).

So it was after about 2 months of walking 1.5 to 2 hours most days that the clouds began to part.

Of course, there were many factors that fed into what’s going on for me.

But…

Walking helped open the door

I put it down to these 3 key benefits for me:

1) Attention. It was just me trudging along the road at 5:30am. I had distraction-free time. And I could use all of it for thinking if I wanted to.

2) Focused learning and reflection. Because I could focus on one thing at a time I could gain so much more out of the audio-learning I was listening to. The likes of self-help elder-statesman Earl Nightingale and copywriting rebel, John Carlton, became regular walking companions.

3) Health. I’m just fitter (still a way to go) and with that came better clarity for the rest of the day.

That’s it really.

Maybe you have your owns ways of achieving these sorts of benefits.

For someone like me who doesn’t play sport or go to the gym… it’s been ideal.

And I’d recommend it as totally doable for anyone.
