Racing home from school. We jostled for the best viewing position on the sofa. And settled in for our 1/2 hour must-watch… The Smurfs.
We loved going on smurftastic adventures with them.
As they wriggled out of danger. All in an effort to keep their village safe and hidden.
And of course, belly-laughing every time Brainy Smurf was mercilessly kicking out.
Such were the joys of a 1980s kid.
Although, our little minds never stopped to wonder how it worked with just one female smurf. And a bunch of boys. 🤔
But of all the characters…
Gargamel is the one to copy.
Chris, you know you’re rootin’ for the bad guy, right?
Well… yeah.
Because you can’t fault his persistence.
Sure… maybe decimating all of Smurfdom wasn’t the best goal.
But he DID have a goal.
In fact his mission was was his obsession.
If he was an email marketer, I reckon he’d be knocking it out of the park.
Because he’d be consistently emailing. Adjusting things as needed. Trying new ideas.
Not letting setbacks define him.
And never giving up.
It’s this mindset that’s needed for success.
Self-help legend, Earl Nightingale, said:
“Success is the progressive realisation of a worthy goal.”
According to this definition, we can be successful even if we stumble and fall along the way.
Because success is about movement. And making steps on the path toward our goal.
Taking this view gives such a different perspective.
We don’t become a success once the goal is reached. We ARE a success because we’re pursuing the goal.
So when you’re playing the snakes and ladders game of business. Getting half way. Then sliding down a snake to find yourself back at the start…
Well, that doesn’t have to be the end.
It’s a matter of standing up. Shaking off the dust. And stubbornly heading in the same direction again.
Brushing aside any objections that start chattering to you about being a failure.
Or making you feel like it’s not worth pressing on.
