Gmail promotions tab misery

I really hit a streak of landing in the Gmail promotions tab lately.

It all started a couple of weeks back when I first mentioned the name of a certain shopping-mad season of the year that starts with B and F.

And mentioning costs and salesy-sounding words probably didn’t help.

I prefer my emails NOT showing in the Gmail promotions tab.

I’m used to them being in “Updates.”

It’s a happier place to be. For me at least.

Because, according to industry experts, people tend to pay more attention to things that AREN’T in “Promotions.”

Plus, I don’t like how Gmail shows its top picks on mobile. So everyone else gets booted down below. No matter the order they arrived in.

And what’s the bet I’ll be in Promotions again today for mentioning promotions six times in an email? šŸ˜†

Occasionally I’ve popped in and out of that tab in the past.

But, know what?

Gmail is the only one with the keys to the black box. So none of this is an exact science.

Some online business owners I know spend MOST of their email time in that tab.

They do just fine.

And even though I’d PREFER not to be there. It’s not the end of the world.

Reason being… I’m showing up every day. So it’s harder to be overlooked.

And I work from the premise that if people are on my email list, then they’ll want to open my emails. No matter where I show up in their Gmail. Or whatever inbox provider they use.

(Or they should just unsubscribe now if they’re not actually reading them. That’s my decluttering tip for today!)

So my minor irritation about where my email is showing up tends to pass quickly.

And I get on with focusing on the things I can COMPLETELY control.

Such as consistently writing an email every day.

I actually had a small celebration moment this morning when I looked at my stats in BerserkerMail. And saw I’d clocked up over 500 emails sent!

Most of those are my daily emails.

If you’re doing the typical once-a-week email it’ll take 10 years to get there!

Imagine the progress in your email marketing skills just from simply emailing more. (Never mind healthier sales figures.)

In fact, emailing more is one piece of advice I give to people who want to do the kind of Low-Stress Email Marketing that I’m doing.

It doesn’t have to be daily. But even every other day ISN’T an impossible goal.

Sure, to make it sustainable there’s gotta be some rules to follow. And NOT making oversized, link-heavy newsletters is one of them.

But writing regular, entertaining, story-based emails that help your subscribers get to know YOU better… is TOTALLY doable.

I do it. And I was scared of writing when I started (no joke!)

You can watch how I show up every day with a simple email. And a single call to action.

Often I’m sharing plenty of tips in these emails about email marketing. And keeping it low-stress.
