Walking along the beach the other day, I spotted this guy going at a snail’s pace.
While the rest of us walkers sonic-boomed our way past.
‘Isn’t that taking the idea of “leisurely walk” a little TOO far?’
Then I spotted what he was up to.
Trying to make his fortune, perhaps? Or just seeing what odds and sods turn up?
He waved his metal detector backwards and forwards across the sand.
Then took a meagre step foward.
And repeated his ritual on the next patch.
Ever hopeful of hearing the beep. Telling him, “dig here!”
It is about hope.
Because there’s no guarantee anyone will have accidentaly dropped their 3-carat diamong ring.
Or some long-forgotten treasure will have washed in from the sea.
It’s like hoping the arrival of a new year will magically make things better for our business.
Rather than it being the same old boring things that make business go better.
This means simply ignoring the “grass is greener” temptations when looking around at other “more successful” business owners.
Making serving customers your priority, by selling them products that help them solve real problems. And supporting them with their purchases.
And sticking to simple, proven strategies.
At least this is my approach.
Which also includes continuing to learn and grow. So I can put my best foot forward.
