We’d only just stepped out from among the trees.
After we’d walked for 1.5 hours along the coastal “path.” That took us up and down and all over the place.
Most of the way was rough going. Scrambling over scoria fields from the island volcano we were visiting.
Thankfully, 600 years dormant. 😅
But now we were walking along a flat path. Just a short amble from the wharf. Which was our lunch stop.
So I’m chatting away with one of my girls.
Next moment…
I’m on the ground. Blood streaming from my arm. And a shooting pain in my left ankle.
“Are you OK?” Vicki said with surprise, as she dashed back to where I lay.
“Yeah, my stupid ankle,” I said, as her and my daughter hauled me back to my feet.
“Of course it would decide to misbehave now.” 😠
Five more minutes and we would have been done.
Fortunately it wasn’t as bad as it could’ve been.
I’ve got a weak left ankle. Ever since I snapped it while playing soccer, many moons ago.
But knowing its propensity for failure influences my footwear choices.
So if I’d not been wearing my boots with high sides to brace my ankle… well… it would’ve been 10-times worse.
Just a moderate sprain this time.
Some grazes. And a gash.
And a little wounded pride.
So what does wiping out while traipsing around an island have to do with email marketing?
Beats me.
I guess you could pull out a “moral of the story” about unexpected things happening.
Or about being complacent when things are looking easy.
Maybe… knowing your weakenesses, and preparing in advance. So they’re not 10-times-worse than they could have been.
If none of those float your boat, then how about…
If you don’t grow your email list then your business will end up a scraped, scratched, and bleeding mess — just like Chris did? 😉
Now’s not too bad a time to be thinking about that. What with a new year on our doorstep.
I’m certainly thinking about it. And doing it.
In fact, growing my email list is a constant part of my business strategy.
