“Do ya get it? Are you sure you get it? I’m not sure you do.”
[explains for 87 minutes in excruciating depth]
“Get it now?”
“No?”
[another 14-hours of mind-numbing warbling — making the proverbial drying paint look like a puffy shirt episode of Seinfeld]
You know the type?
Yeah… that’s kinda me.
Because I’m someone who likes other people to have a super-clear, full picture of things.
For their own best interests, of course!
So much so, that I have a tendency to shovel too much information down their throats.
That they neither ask for, want, or need.
I’m pretty sure that’s an internal insecurity thing.
Or just a too-excited-about-something-but-socially-unaware-of-people’s-brain-cell-death-from-all-my-yabbering thing.
I give TMI a lot of the time.
(TMI = too much information, BTW 😉)
Well, I’ve certainly been guilty of that.
But I think I’m getting better.
Case in point…
I was chatting with someone the other day about how I had Discord on my phone, so I can keep up with my mastermind group.
And I was about to launch into WHY I have notifications turned off for Discord a lot of the time.
Because notifications affect my attention and blah de blah de blah.
But I stopped. Because the little voice said, “Do they really need to know all that, right now?”
They can ask more about Discord if they’re interested. But if they don’t, just go with the flow.
Huh… I might be having a growth moment. How ’bout that?
Or maybe I’m learning a thing or two about conciseness from all this copywriting stuff I’m doing.
It’s worth being to the point. So you don’t overwhelm people.
Sure, they need to know stuff. But not a dump truck’s-worth all at once.
Take working with clients. There’s certainly a risk of TMI.
We need to be ready to answer their questions, for sure.
And continue to be there for them when more come up.
But, in my opinion, they don’t need to know the intricate details of how you do what you do. Unless they ask.
It’s the “what” you do, the solution you offer, that’s going to help them the most.
One of my “whats” is writing stuff to help freelancers and solo business owners take strides forward in their business.
I’m sure you don’t want me to blab for another thousand words here.
Unless, of course, you’re some sort of pain junkie who is craving the Chris TMI experience. 😂
So I’ll just keep it brief and say…
Check out this “what” of mine, if you’re wanting a way to speed up content creation. Or getting started on it in a practical sort of way.
(Since launching, it’s also had a little refresh on the graphics front, and a pleasant price adjustment)
Heh… those sneaky comments in brackets are probably symptoms of my TMI disease. But I might not be able to shake them entirely 😆
Now, while you’re here… let me tell you ALL about…
😉
