Now I’m a YouTube influencer

I just put on my big boy pants… and set the remainder of my private YouTube videos to “public.”

Some of these “new” ones are just tutorials. That have close-to-zero production values.

They just crack right to the topic. And there’s not a pretty thumbnail image in sight.

One even has an intro music track! This was from two years ago when I first had a play around with video. And got my bargain-bin lighting setup going then too.

When I was in my YouTube admin area today I noticed…

One of my already-published videos has now crept up to 40 views.

I literally uploaded it to YouTube a couple of months ago and then did nothing.

It’s just YouTube search delivering a small trickle of views.

Imagine if I’d actually tried. 😂

But look…

YouTube is very handy in my growing business. But it’s NOT my business.

I like doing tutorials etc from time to time. It’s a way I can “bottle” my skills and share them.

I can share the videos to my email list. And in my LinkedIn posts. And on my Substack if I want.

I’m now even experimenting with taking the audio from my Substack posts and making them into audio-only YouTube videos.

I’ve just got the first one live today. And it’s a bit crap.

But hey… experimenting never hurt anyone (unless it was with gelignite! 🧨)

What’s cool are the links from one place to another within my “world.”

You see…

My YouTube description links back to Substack. So if people want to read the text they can.

And if they go there they’ll see the growing pile of articles. Maybe even read them.

I can link back to my YouTube channel from Substack.

And all my video descriptions have links to my main website with an invitation to join the adventure of growing my email list.

Same kind of thing for LinkedIn. There can be links from there to YouTube. And back.

And I can use these platforms (eventually) to increase views on the others. I mean… if you send a link to a video to your large email list… that’s a great way to get a lot of views quickly.

This is what Ben Settle, email marketer par-excellence, calls “media stacking.”

The best-in-the-business do it extensively to be omnipresent.

Think… Tony Robbins… you can’t escape the guy! (Or is that just me?)

Everything for your brand is linked into a web.

So if people find you on one platform they can explore and find you on another. Perhaps one they prefer to consume your content on.

It may not seem like it… but a lot of this stuff is NOT hard to do.

It just takes a little learning. And some comfort-zone nudging.

All I’ve done for my audio-only YouTube video is download the audio from Substack. Where I originally recorded the voiceover.

Then I created a video in Canva. Put in the audio and image. And voila!

(Well… there was another geeky step… but it’s almost that simple)

YouTube, LinkedIn, and Substack are simply places where I publish content.

The reason for doing that is so people can discover what I do… and they are shown an open door to sign up to my email list.

Because everything orbits around my email list. As it should.
