The bittersweet dichotomy of deadlines

I noticed something today… as I was scurrying around frantically… like a squirrel gathering nuts for the winter…

It’s that I seem to operate more efficiently… and with more focus… when I have a deadline approaching.

In this case, it’s the submission deadline for a bundle. And I’m busy creating a product for it too.

In fact this week…

I’ve got THREE submission deadlines!!

AND…

THREE products I’m creating!!

(You’re right! I’m no squirrel… I’m just nuts!)

So far it’s one and three-quarters down. One and a quarter to go!

It’s been one of “those” weeks. But that’s okay… it will probably never happen again (pleeeease nooo!)

Something I’ve discovered is just how much deadlines help me focus.

But they also have this evil twin effect…

Where I can end up getting TOO much “in the zone” … and working over-intensively.

I’ll sit at my laptop for hours on end… tip-tapping away… occasionally cursing at the screen… oblivious to the rest of life going on around me.

While this can be good for getting stuff done in a short period of time…

This kind of focus also ramps up the stress levels for me.

Don’t get me wrong…

I LOVE the progress these times help me make in my business.

But…

I definitely DON’T like (or need) the stress!

(Hey… I’m focusing my business around “low stress email marketing” for a reason!)

I know I’m a more “stressy” person. So do need to watch that I don’t overdo it.

And I remember the days all too well when I burned out real, REAL bad.

So, there’s this dichotomy…

With both the good AND bad effects of deadlines at play.

I’m guessing that being a bit more balanced with the number of deadlines in one week will kinda sorta help keep the stress at a safe level.

“Duh, Chris… you only just worked THAT one out?”

“Yeah… I’m a slow learner, I know.”

Fortunately…

Writing daily emails AREN’T a stress point for me.

In fact, it’s kinda the opposite.

I like the people I’m writing to. I write what I want. It’s a delight! šŸ˜„

And writing this now is a welcome break amongst the busyness of this looming deadline.
