There’s a thing creative types like to do.
Especially writers.
And I’ve been guilty.
It’s…
Getting creative… when you should be getting clear.
Case in point yesterday…
A writer on Facebook said their business name was related to “tea” (as in the kind you drink).
So they were working on a slogan to put in their LinkedIn profile.
They wanted show their writing creativity by saying something cutesy about tea.
The crazy thing is…
They are a copywriter for REAL ESTATE clients!
So, in my book, this was a BAAAD idea!
Reason being…
If you think of your LinkedIn profile as a mini sales page… selling how you help your prospective clients solve their problems…
Is including slogans about “tea” going to help your prospects discover how you can help them sell more houses?
Not likely. It’s probably going to be a sidetrack from the single main thread.
It could be enough to throw clients off. And cost dollars in lost revenue.
Now, this kind of creativity might have some uses elsewhere in their business.
For example, it could be part of a great intro to an article, email, blog post, or social media post.
Or may be delightful to read about in an “About Us” page on their website.
So when you’re wanting to get the attention of clients…
Keep it clear. Keep it focused.
It doesn’t mean it has to be boring.
It just needs to be super-clear to your prospective clients.
So they can discover easily…
What you do… and … how you can help them.
I help my clients build their email lists.
