Yappin’ at my heels

I froze in my tracks as it ran toward me.

Disturbing memories flashed across my mind. Scars from 11-year-old Chris’s newspaper delivery days.

The owner rushed up.

“I’m SO sorry!”

He frantically fumbled with the leash. Deftly clipped it on. And tugged the furry ball of potential bloody carnage away.

“Phew!”

Sure, I do sometimes like being the center of attention.

And I enjoy patting my friends’ fur babies.

But out in public, you can never be quite sure if that cute and cuddly exterior houses an ankle-nipping terror.

This transpired as I was enjoying a “peaceful” walk on the beach.

Thinking that getting some fresh air and exercise would be a good start to the holidays.

Especially after yesterday’s cramped, 7-hour car trip.

Out of all the other people walking at 6:30am. And plenty with dogs (that surely smelled a whole lot more interesting than me!)…

What the heck made this little fella decide I was the one?

Whatever it was…

The yapping. And the beeline for me. Made it plain he was serious.

Then I got to thinking…
